Minutes from Business Meeting 2/5/06

·         Meeting called to order 10:05 am – Raftery

·         Secretary went through roll call - Tepedino

·         Secretary read minutes from business meeting 3/20/05. 

      Motion to accept minutes T.Burch, 2nd P. Scott.  Motion passed unanimous.

·         Motion to accept 2006 Budget - R. Kosiorek, 2nd B. Reichard

·         Executive committee report – Raftery

                        3. Advancement – (4) letters were responded to by Board.

                        4. All issues have been addressed.

·         Membership – Pegoni … Advertising expanded coverage included cable TV – $383,

                  15 responses.

·        New members introduced, B. Charboneau – 1st year certified umps. 

·        Rookie camp – Bob C. 1st meeting, 2/14.  1st year umps to attend.  Optional for 2nd year

·        Logos on hats: GVUA purchased initial hats for all certified members.

                                             i.         All future hat purchases are the responsibility of individual members.

                                           ii.         JV will continue to wear plain navy blue hats. 

                                          iii.         A hat will be awarded one time to all Associate umpires who become certified.

                                         iv.         GVUA purchased 100 addition hats for sale.

·        Banquet, Paul Scott will chair banquet committee again this year.

Ψ      Dwyer stadium is the site of choice by membership.  Membership decided to vote every year.  Umps need to contact Paul to reserve a spot at the banquet.  Fine will be levied to all who reserve and don’t show up. 

·        Fundraiser Jeff Youngs - $1584 profit in 2005.

·        No changes in by-laws this year.

·        Raftery again emphasized that the association is doing a poor job of applying rules.  Officials want to give kids a break and not write them up.  Anytime someone is ejected it is the officials responsibility to write a report.  NO EXCEPTIONS!! Contact AD no later than noon the day after the ejection.  Doubleheaders – umps not responsible to enforce one game ejection rule.

·        All games will be assigned by Bill Burns again this year.  Umps must be assigned by the assignor in order to be covered by insurance. This includes modified games. 

·        Summary of State Meeting – R. Raftery / S. Rothrock

·        Uniform adjusted Cliff Keene cream shirt (summer only). 

·        Mileage adjustment for State Level Activities

·        Raise in Chapter dues (raising cost of insurance)

·        Formal evaluation process for Probationary & Associate umpires.

Ψ      This will include an evaluation for both the plate and the bases.

Ψ      Evaluations will be used for advancement to Certified status.

Ψ      Two (2) full evaluations (plate & bases – 1 each) needed before obtaining certified status

Ψ      Responsibility of Umpire to contact an approved evaluator prior to June 30

Ψ      Evaluation forms are posted online.

·        GVUA training aids were recognized at the State meeting and are used by other groups.

·        Summer survey results – Raftery gave a summary of the successful summer season. 

      Over 700 games were assigned.

·        Awards presentation – 1st annual rookie award Phil Grazioplene, ump of the year award

      went to Paul Scott.  Plaques awarded.  Committee to be organized to handle future awards.

·        Hall of Fame proposal presented.  VP to chair all interested should respond by 2/27.

·        All awards will be announced at the season ending banquet.

·        New fundraising proposal was presented by Rich Kosiorek.  Details to follow. 

      Fundraiser was approved by membership with one vote opposed.

·        50-50 winner – Brian Newville $66
