Minutes from Executive Board Meeting 11/14/04

 

Actions in Bold – due next meeting

·        Attendance:  Ryan Raftery, Pete Pegoni, Bob Charboneau, Rico Tepedino, Bill Pitcher

·        Propose having the Umpire’s banquet at Dwyer every year.  Coordinator will be appointed.  

            Feedback on banquet at Dwyer (cost effective, good location, positive atmosphere) Vote 5-0

·        New structure for attending banquet. Send out letter & those interested reply yes.  \

            Fines will only be issued if a person who committed to attending does not show. Vote 5-0

·        Send status sheet to Executive Board. Use ACTIVE sheet only.  Tepedino                  

·        Ejections procedure needs to be adhered to.  Agenda item for 1st Business Meeting. Old Bus.

·        Emphasize using e-mails for all correspondence to Executive Board.  Issues can be communicated to any Board member.  Don’t call Board members after 10 pm, unless for an emergency.

·        New Business:  Rookie camp – Bob C. will conduct after 1st meeting. Two extra meetings will be scheduled.

            These will be in addition to regular meetings. 1st year umps have to attend at least one.

·        Formal evaluation process for Probationary & Associate umpires was discussed.

·        This will include an evaluation for both the plate and the bases.

·        Evaluations will be used for advancement to Certified status starting in 2005.

·        One full evaluation (both plate & bases) needed before obtaining certified status

·        Board members will be initial evaluators.  Board will designate evaluators as needed.

·        Assigned evaluators will be compensated $25.00 per evaluation.

·        Recommend raising the 1st year fee to same as certified ($60) to cover cost of evaluations.

·        Current Associate members and 2nd year umps fee to remain at ($40) until New Business: Logos on hats:

            Propose – GVUA will buy initial hats for all certified members. Vote- 5-0

                  1.   All future hat purchases are the responsibility of individual members.

2.      JV will continue to wear plain navy blue hats. 

3.      A hat will be awarded one time to all Associate umpires who become certified.

·        Compile summer survey results from the various leagues.  Present to membership.  Raftery

·        Add summer structure & rules to the Constitution - Raftery.

·        Went through Constitution changes recommended by Ryan. 

            Board reviewed all adjustments and approved vote 5-0.  Update will be put on website.

·        Approve summer fee adjustment proposal Assignor compensation is charged direct to each league Vote 5-0

·        State Report - Charboneau  - new long sleeve shirt & shirt combination options.

·        People moving up to certified status and associate membership.
